Sanctify Yourself

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways.  (Isaiah 55:9)

One of my favorite children's books is "The Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle.  The story chronicles a little green caterpillar eating all sorts of food until one day it spins a cocoon and transforms into a beautiful butterfly.  Our son particularly enjoys this story as the pages come alive in vibrant colors.

The transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly is much like our lives when we trust Christ as our Lord and Savior.  He has the power to take something that is somewhat ugly and transforms it into a thing of majestic beauty.  After our transformation, why do we often struggle with our old sinful habits and attitudes?  The truth is that while we are a "new creation" in Christ, we are still bound in our fleshly bodies while on this earth.

While salvation is a one-time event, sanctification is a lifelong process that God uses to shape and mold our lives to be increasingly like Jesus until we draw our last breath.  Thankfully, we don't have to face this transformation alone; we have help from the Holy Spirit that teaches us and guides every step of our lives.
