These Days

Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.  When their sprit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.  (Psalm 146:3)

Well, it's the day after the mid-term elections and hopefully we can go another few months before we are inundated with more political ads for the next campaign season.  One of my favorite slogans from the past 2008 presidential election was "Got Hope."  People put their hope endlessly into a politician and most have already been sadly disappointed.

The psalmist portrays man as an inadequate savior, and a false hope, no matter what affiliation or campaign promise someone makes.  God is hope and the help of the needy.  Jesus doesn't separate the social and spiritual needs of people, but attends to both.

While God, not the government, is the hope we need, we are His instruments to help here on earth.  Put your hope in the One who can deliver...
