How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  (Jeremiah 17:7)

As a Sunday school leader, the youth often impress me with their questions and today I was asked what exactly "Advent" was.  I didn't get too deep with my answer, but explained that four candles are lit every Sunday leading up to Christmas and then finally, the Christ candle is lit on Christmas day.  With yesterday being the first Sunday in Advent, below is an explanation of what the first candle is symbolic of.

The First Candle (The Candle of Prophecy/Hope)

The first candle is sometimes called the candle of prophecy because it symbolizes the promises the prophets delivered as messages from God; promises that foretold Christ’s birth. Others consider the candle to be a symbol of the hope we have in Christ and so it is called the Hope candle.

Prophetic Verse: Arise, shine; For you light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. (Isaiah 60: 1-3)

The Fulfillment of Prophecy: ‘Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.” (Matthew 24:44)

Glory be to God in the highest!!!!
