Take It Easy

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened and I will cause you to rest.  I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls. Matthew 11:28

In addition to having snack-time and playground time, I am envious that our children get to enjoy both as well as an afternoon nap at school.  I have always wondered how much more productive adults would be if they were allowed to pull out the red and blue mats and take an hour-long power nap after enjoying a quick snack...

True rest, physical and mental, is highly underrated.  God actually wants us to stop, rest, and take a mental break for our souls as well.  It’s hard to find true peace when your mind is constantly at work, trying to figure out what you should do about everything in your life.

The next time you are worn out from a tiring and exhausting day, take some time to experience rest and peace by going to Christ and allowing Him to refresh your soul.  We all have this wonderful privilege, so take advantage of resting in Jesus’ loving arms.

Help Me Somebody!

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me.  Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.  I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it.  Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.  I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.  Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. Matthew 11:28-30, The Message

If that verse sounds familiar, it could be because it’s the exact same verse I wrote about in Tuesday's Daily DEVO, this time it’s taken from The Message.  I enjoy this paraphrased version of the same Scripture because it just makes perfect sense to me.  I also felt it important to add to my prior DEVO that we should all be humbled enough to cry out to God for help when we need it.

Too often, our pride gets in the way and we refuse to turn our problems over to our Loving Father who wants to give us a rest from all of our worrying and anxieties we face on a daily basis.

Our beginnings do not have to dictate our endings-we need to let God be involved with every area of our lives and allow Him to lead us into “real rest.”

Enjoy The Silence

He makes me lie down in fresh, tender green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.  Psalm 23:2

Every fall, particularly Q4 in the insurance world, things move at a very rapid pace.  Most employers want their benefit plans to start and renew at the beginning of the fiscal year so, needless to say, our work load has increased exponentially and I have felt a bit overwhelmed at work recently.

Being so busy, it’s hard for me to even imagine the “still and restful waters” mentioned in the above Psalm.  Regardless, I know that the “still waters” are where I need to go to truly begin to find quiet rest and the strength that I need to face the pressures of life.

The “still waters” are healing waters that are available to all believers at any place or any time, but rarely do we ever go there.

The next time you are feeling the need to find rest for your soul, let everything get quiet and enjoy the beauty of solitude, if only for a few moments.  We can learn more in moment of silence than we ever possibly could in all of the noise of the world.

Spend more time in the still waters and enjoy peace and rest for your soul.
