Just Between You and Me

 

The earnest heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available dynamic in its working.  James 5:16

Pondering how quickly time seems to be flying by these days, I reflected back on a tough decision that I had to make earlier this year that, at the time, seemed to be so daunting that it loomed over me for several weeks.  I admit that I was even afraid as I am prone to being resistant to change.  Looking back, it really was not a big deal, but I sure made it out to be one.

God wants us to pray about everything and wants us to fear nothing.  I had to face my fears, but all God wanted me to do was to put my faith in Him to resolve the situation.  Just as He always does, He came through and delivered in His perfect timing.

What a blessing it is to know that God cares about every situation we face-the big and the small, the good and the bad.  Our part is to pray and God will provide us with the strength and power to meet our needs.

Would I Lie To You?

 

Because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises.  These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires.  In view of all of this, make every effort to respond to God's promises.  2 Peter 1:4-5

If I had to be perfectly honest about the season I am currently in, I would undoubted tell you that I am one blessed man, but at the same time I am also in a new and uncharted territory that sometimes leaves me doubting myself and questioning God on a few items.  

At home, I am blessed by all means, but managing our busy schedules and also making time to spend with family and friends remains a never-ending challenge.  At work, I am blessed with my career track and new opportunities, but things are still difficult with the uncertainty that many employers are facing as it pertains to health care reform. We are seeing rates increases on group medical insurance that are simply not affordable with no end in sight. 

Doubt is okay, and it doesn't necessarily mean that we have less faith, it just means our faith is being challenged in new ways.  When we find ourselves in uncharted territory, we must allow our doubt to move us closer to God instead of further away from Him.

God gives us all many promises and the last time I checked, He has never broken a single one.  We must learn to trust Him instead of doubting Him.

When we trust, we fall deeper in love with Him and our faith grows even stronger.

Slippin' Into Darkness

 

Who among you fears the Lord? ...Whoever walks in deep darkness, without light, should trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.  Isaiah 50:10

The first part of my day yesterday started out incredibly awesome.  The weather was cold outside, but still bearable for my morning jog.  All the Christmas lights shined brightly outside the homes in my neighborhood.  For the first time, I was beginning to get excited about Christmas this year. 

I talked to some long-time friends and wished them all a Merry Christmas.  I enjoyed lunch with one of my clients at one of my favorite restaurants in Knoxville, Dead End BBQ.  Life was good and I was on top of the world!  Another hour later, my wonderful day quickly turned into the day from HELL.  

Don’t want to get too personal about work, but let's just say that an unfavorable business decision was made by one of my clients and I was on the losing side of it all.

Nothing happens in this life by chance.  There are reasons for everything happening, because God is in total and complete control.  As is normal for me, I kept wondering what I could have done differently to salvage the business that I lost.  It didn't occur to me until later on that God was still in control, despite my bad situation.  I may never know, why, but I have to trust that it was all part of God's master plan for my life.

One thing is for sure, as we head into Christmas; even in dark and challenging times, we must learn to rely on God and trust Him, at all costs. 

Tomorrow's Dust

 

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

2 Peter 3:8

I recently recalled said something that our boys said when they were much younger which is simple and shows the heart of child-like faith: “Daddy, God is always on time.”

I admit, that I am stubborn and often forget that simple statement when I am trying to be the God of my universe; I am NOT God. 

God moves in His timing and NOT mine.  He is normally never too early with His blessings, but is also never late, either. 

I am also convinced that He often waits to make sure that I am not going to take matters into my own hands and do something outside of His perfect timing before He intervenes on my behalf.

We must learn to trust God and trust His perfect timing.   We must also learn to rely less on our independence to allow God to be free to do His work, His way.

Trust Him and believe that He is doing a good work in you for His purpose!

For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.  Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. Ecclesiastes 10:9-10

 

I have been blessed with some wonderful opportunities at work that I have been able to capitalize on recently.  It wasn't too long ago that I felt defeated and a bit like a failure, but after clinging to God's promises and with continued effort, things began to turn around in my career path in a big way.

Like anyone who has ever questioned a career move or daydreamed about greener pastures when you feel that life has been unfair, we cannot let the inequities of life keep us from earnest and dedicated work.

We must keep our perspective; we serve God, not people.  Whatever it is that you are doing, do it with all of your might and trust that with God's help, you will be successful.
