Ask

To Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think…be glory.  Ephesians 3:20-21

Our boy really enjoy playing video games.  Our oldest son, Elliott, asked to play the Nintendo Wii U the other night, so I let him play a couple of games before bedtime.  I was talking on the phone and lost track of time, so he got to play a little longer than I intended him to.  When I asked him to turn the game console off, he became outraged because he would have played ‘Marvel Superheroes Lego’ all night long if I would have let him.  The more I think about it, we treat God pretty much the same with what we ask of Him too...especially if we do not get our way.

We forget what Paul mentioned in his letter to the Ephesians, that God “is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.”  In the most simple of terms, we cannot possibly begin to ask for all that God desires to give us.  We cannot fathom all that He has to give us and I’d like to think that I have a pretty vivid imagination.

How awesome is it to think that we cannot even begin to imagine all that is contained in God’s endless and abundant riches?! Praise be to God!

Trouble

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble.  Psalm 91:15

The past few months have been pretty hectic at work.  I work as an insurance broker for J. Smith Lanier & Co., a large regional firm, located in the southeast. Without going into too many details, PPACA or Health Care Reform has certainly been a challenge with my career, to say the very least.  It’s been rewarding and I have been blessed beyond all belief, but sometimes I feel like there is not enough time in the day.  To make matters worse, just when I feel I have a grasp on the law, it changes again! 

Sometimes when life is hectic or you are experiencing troubles, it may not seem like it, but rest assured that God is in control.  He is still omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, and He will always be.

When facing difficulties, we shouldn't question “Why did God let this happen to me?”  The godly response and one of complete trust is “Father, what do you want me to learn in response to this?”

Twist

"Because of God's tender mercy the dawn will break upon is from on high to give light to those who sit in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."  Luke 1:78-79

I am a creature of habit and like to have a schedule of events or at least some sort of plan for each day.  I do occasionally like to change things up a bit, but by no means am I a fan of my daily path taking unexpected twists and turns.  This type of stubbornness can be difficult in the insurance business and especially with young children. 

You see, when we live our lives under the false belief that we are actually in control, we are not allowing God to help us through each day. We must stay alert to His Presence so that when our lives make that occasional detour or we run into 'bumps' in the road, we can lean on our Father to help us overcome the problems we encounter, with strength and peace.

Thank God for each day that doesn't turn out the way you anticipated it to!
