I Will Follow

 

For we are his workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we may do them.  Ephesians 2:10

The past few days, our family has worked on getting rid of stuff we no longer use nor want (or have the room for in our home)-stuff the boys no longer play with and several clothing items that we no longer wear any more.  Many of our items are still in good shape and will be donated to a local ministry.  As we quickly approach the end of 2025 and approach the beginning of a new year,  it’s time to let go of the past, remove the ‘junk’ out of our lives, and walk closer with God in the year to come.

You see, the closer we grow to God, the more we fully become our  “true selves.”  Just like old clothing or dated fashion, our old selves are in the past and we are deemed a new creation by our loving Father.  We are each created as individuals-one of a kind, and the path that we are needs to remain a straight line towards God.

Let us rejoice in our journey towards God in the days to come and enjoy the intimate communion with our Father that loves us more than we can possibly comprehend.

Things have certainly changed for me, but I am still just a work in progress.  I do try to spend time in prayer daily, read my Bible regularly, and apply the Word of God to my life, but no matter how much my faith grows, I will always fall short of God’s grace.

It got me thinking-if we are not allowing God's Word to persuade us, influence our thinking, and impact our behavior, then who or what are we allowing to influence us?? 

You will constantly have the influence of what other people say to weigh against the written Word of God. Anything that does not line up with God's Word should be dismissed.  It’s impossible to live a sin-free life; Jesus is the only One who can make that claim, but as Christians, we should constantly be growing in our faith and looking more like our Savior each and every day. 

Control

 

I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.  Romans 7:18

I certainly struggle with control issues- wanting to be in control of certain situations in my life, relationships, my children, work, etc.  The problem is, (thankfully) I am not God and only He can be in control of our lives. 

The apostle Paul even struggled with his humanness and sin, but he never let is interfere with his commitment to do God’s will.  You see, we must admit that we are powerless on our own and also admit that our lives have become unmanageable as a result.

The more I grow in my faith the more I understand that this is the foundation of our walk with Jesus-letting go, and letting God.
