Good Times, Bad Times

 

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.  But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when His glory is revealed.  1 Peter 4:12-13

Painful trails are simply part of life.  In fact, Jesus assures us all that we will encounter trouble at some point over the course of our lives.  While we must experience some pain, God promises us that He loves us and that He will use those painful times to help us grow stronger in our walk of faith.  

The past couple of months have been difficult for myself and my friends back home.  A close family friend passed away just a few weeks ago and to say that this has been painful would be an understatement. 

Despite the tears and heartache, I know that God has remained by my side, which has kept me strong.  Knowing that He will always be with each one of us helps us so that we can learn to endure, grow in our faith, and learn patience.  You see, despite our circumstances, our trials provide us with an opportunity to depend on God and to lean on Him as we share in the sufferings like Christ did.

Bad times (thankfully) come and go, but the development of our godly character is continuous and will last until we leave this broken world to go to our eternal resting place in heaven.

I don't know where to begin, but the past couple of months have been difficult for myself and my family.  A close family friend passed away before Christmas, Alicia's grandfather passed away in January and just last week, my friend from childhood lost his battle with Lymphoma.  To say that these have been painful times and an emotional roller-coaster rides would be a grand understatement. 

Despite the tears and heartache, I know that God has remained by my side, which has kept me strong.  Knowing that He will always be with each one of us helps us so that we can learn to endure, grow in our faith, and learn patience.  You see, despite our circumstances, our trials provide us with an opportunity to depend on God and to lean on Him as we share in the sufferings like Christ did.

I don't know where to begin, but the past couple of months have been difficult for me and my family.  We lost our family pet, Charlie, two years ago then a year ago this month we remembered our puppy Lucy who lost her battle with Parvo.  To say that those were painful times and an emotional roller-coaster rides would be a grand understatement. 

Despite the tears and heartache, I know that God has remained by my side, which has kept me strong.  Knowing that He will always be with each one of us helps us so that we can learn to endure, grow in our faith, and learn patience.  You see, despite our circumstances, our trials provide us with an opportunity to depend on God and to lean on Him as we share in the sufferings like Christ did.

I don't know where to begin, but the past couple of months have been difficult for me and my family.  We lost our family pet, Charlie, back in October and then recently due to a parvo outbreak at the local animal shelter, lost one of our two adopted puppies. To say that it has been painful and an emotional roller-coaster would be a grand understatement.

I don't know where to begin, but the past eighteen months have been difficult for me and my family.  My mother passed away in August of 2014 and just last February, my grandmother also went to her eternal resting place. To say that it has been painful and difficult would be a grand understatement.

What Becomes of the Brokenhearted?

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.  Psalm 34:18

Have you ever struggled for the words to offer a friend or neighbor when tragedy strikes and a loved one is lost?  I know that I have and quite honestly, there is no easy cure for a broken heart.  There is no prescription you can take to make everything better and the healing process takes a lot of time.

A broken heart needs a different kind of healing. Generous doses of compassion, comfort, encouragement, love, and listening will eventually restore the joy and hope to a hurting soul.

We must never forget that God is the master healer. As a loving friend, we can offer help, but none like the power our loving Father. When you are hurt and heartbroken, move closer to God instead of running away from Him.

He is the greatest source of healing, peace, and joy; there is nothing this world as to offer that even comes close....
